Union Avenue was renamed Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd in 1989 as part of a larger attempt to revitalize this area of Portland, Oregon. The name change was not without its controversy, but today it would seem more controversial for a city like Portland NOT to have a street named after the greates civil rights leader of the 20th century.
At the northernmost point of the Marine Drive becomes Martin Luther King Blvd at the Pacific Highway (N 45.602 W 122.6782), MLK Blvd merges with Grand Avenue at Division Street (N 45.509 W 122.6622)
but the most interesting bits are in the middle. The boulevard is primarily commercial properties, but there are also residential and even a couple of light industrial properties.
