The Bridgewater Public Library is a basic library, providing a variety of literary and educational resources for town residents. Located near the Town Common, the library has been operating in a self-described 'crisis' mode for the last several years as the result of severe financial cutbacks. However, community support for the library remains high, and a network of volunteers helps to keep the library operating successfully. The library is still heavily used, and despite the current financial situation, the library has managed to add eight new public access computers and free Wifi service to its offerings.

Unfortunately for local residents, one impacts of the current financial crisis was the de-certification of the library by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. This unfortunate situation means that residents are no longer able to participate in reciprocal book borrowing programs with libraries in the surrounding towns.

The library and its dedicated staff, along with its Board of Directors and local public figures, has developed a plan to assure the long term success of the library.
