Denver's LoDo (Lower Downtown) had fallen into disrepair in the 1950s and 1960s. Originally the area was slated for demolition and reconstruction, but wise business community members recognized the importance and character of the old buildings. Much of LoDo architecture was saved. These manhole covers help to give character to the revived area and denote that this is a 'Historic District.'. These particular covers are on the sidewalk near the street, so they are much safer to photograph and in great condition. There are others in the street.
