Marker Name: A15 - Overturf House
Marker Text: A.M. Drake recruited Harley Jones Overturf, a recent graduate of the University of Oregon, as office manager of his Pilot Butte Development Company. Arriving in 1904, Overturf became an active civic leader. He created the Emblem Club, a forerunner of the Chamber of Commerce, served on the city council as county commissioner, and later won a seat in the Oregon State Legislature. He married Ruth Reid, Bend’s first principal.
