This is the tomb of General Albert Sidney Johnston, CSA in the Texas State Cemetery, Austin, TX
The tomb is a large metal structure done in a gothic cathedral style. Within the metal structure is the tomb of a pink granite base. Atop the base is a marble horizontal life-size statue by the sculptor Elisabet Ney. The face was sculpted from General Johnston's death mask. Over the sculpture is an enclosed plexiglass screen.
The structure is opened periodically to clean and inspect for any needed repairs or preservation.

- Birthplace: Washington, Kentucky
- Birthdate: February 2, 1803.
- Graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in June 1826.
- Married Henrietta Preston on January 20, 1829.
- Resigned his commission on April 22, 1834
- Farmed near St. Louis, MO in 1835.
- Mrs. Johnston died on August 12, 1835.
- Enlisted as a private in the Texas Army in 1836.
- Appointed adjutant general August 5, 1836.
- Appointed Secretary of War for the Republic of Texas on December 22, 1838.
- Returned to Kentucky in 1840 and married Eliza Griffin in 1843.
- Returned to Brazoria County, Texas.
- Served in the U.S. Army during the Mexican War, rising to the position of Inspector General.
- Next was posted to the Texas frontier, later becoming a brevet Brigadier General posted in San Francisco in 1860.
- When the Civil War began in 1861, he resigned his commission, refused a U.S. offer of a command, and returned to Texas.
- Appointed a general in the Confederate Army by CSA President Jefferson Davis, assigned command of the Western Department.
- Killed in battle at Shiloh on April 6, 1862
- Temporarily buried at New Orleans
- His remains were transferred to Austin for burial in the State Cemetery in 1867.
- In 1905, the current stone monument by noted sculptor Elisabet Ney was erected at the site.
