Located on the brow of the Niagara Escarpment at the junction of Highway 406 and St. David's Road in the City of St. Catharines, the Glenridge Quarry Naturalization Site was a municipal landfill site from October 1976 to December 2001. After the landfill closed,
a number of land use alternatives were evaluated and concluded that the most suitable end use for the Glenridge Quarry Landfill Site was a natural revegetation and the establishment of a trail system.
In designing the trail system, emphasis was placed on accommodating users with mobility difficulties with linkages to the Bruce Trail, Shaver Hospital, Niagara Peninsula Children's Center and Brock University. Along the trails, seating areas and interpretive stations are integrated to enhance the experience. A children's science and nature area, with an outdoor classroom, invites educators and school groups to visit and learn about natural sciences and the environment.
