The location entered is correct; the plaque has the wrong coordinates. They are off by some 186.76 metres against the GPSr.

Further the Land Information New Zealand website data is consistent with the findings. Go to (visit link) and enter in BDFU as the code. This will come up with the details of the plaque's location. It also provides a Google Map KML file.

There are only two NZIS plaques in existence as benchmarks according to LINZ. This on in Invercargill; the other is at Scott Base Hatherton Laboratory on Antarctica.
