The Mawsons were non-conformists, and this probably explains the lack of headstone nor inscription at the grave site in Bowness cemetery.

The cemeteries officer for SLDC confirms the location on attached map.
"Mawson is buried in a family group of 6 graves - 34/35/36/46/47/48 A NP uc by the railings to Glebe Road, near the cemetery cottage. They are marked by a kerb set around the graves but, as you say, they are un-inscribed with any details - shown on the left in attached photograph. Thomas is in 36 - lower left of the 6 on edge of picture with beech leaves on the grass."

In September 2006, author Elizabeth Kissack published a biography of Thomas Mawson - "The Life of Thomas Hayton Mawson, Landscape Architect 1861-1933", ISBN 0955365300, £11.99. This is an attractive 100-page paperback book, profusely illustrated, and largely written from a Lake District perspective.

Description:
TH Mawson landscaped many gardens in South Cumbria and throughout Europe and Canada. He also designed and built many local houses for his family. The king of Greece commissioned him to rebuild Athens. In amongst all this he wrote a definitive books on garden design. All his legacy gardens are proudly maintained in their original design.
