This sculpture of a rising thunderbird is located at the entrance to Tulsa Fire Station 29, which is at the NW corner of Oral Roberts University. The sculpture is entirely black, with the bird and ashes on top of a pillar near the fire station's sidewalk. There is a flagpole in the same landscaped area.

Description:
A large winged bird, a phoenix or thunderbird, rises above flames and ashes. Its wings are open and extended. The sculpture is placed atop a round polished granite column.

Dimensions:

Sculpture: approx. H. 8 ft. x W. 7 ft.; Base: approx. H. 8 ft.

Remarks:

The sculpture cost $2,371.89. It was funded through the City of Tulsa's Percent for Art Program. IAS files contain related articles from the Tulsa Tribune, Oct. 2, 1974; and the Tulsa Daily World, July 6, 1975, Section A, pg. 19. IAS files contain a flyer from the Philbrook Art Center's bus tour of public sculpture and a page from the Tulsa Arts Commission's checklist of city-owned art works.
