Marker Name: A13 - R.M. Smith House
Marker Text: Missouri resident R.M. Smith was in Portland on business in 1909 when he heard about the growing town of Bend and decided to have a look. Smith liked what he saw and returned in 1910 to open the Reed Smith Clothing Company, which eventually became the R.M. Smith Grocery Store. Following World War I, the depressed economy put Smith out of business and he went to work as an insurance salesman.
