St. Peters Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation formed in 1834 and celebrated its 150th anniversary of the event in 1984. In 1810 a log schoolhouse was erected near where the present church building stands. The log school was used as a church as well as a school.

In 1834 a stone structure was erected and was occupied throughout the years of 1834 until 1885 by both Lutheran and Reformed congregations. The Union was disolved in 1895 when the Lutheran congregation built the present structure. The stone church had fallen into dispair and the two congregations could reach agreement concerning its repair or replacement.

In 1911 a bell tower and nerthex was added. In 1954 the interior of the church was redecorated. A subday school building was completed and dedicated in 1967. In 2005 an addition was completed including a large narthex, a new pastor's study and new restrooms.

The churchyard is located next to the church which is very well maintained. The cemetery is still being used and has approximately400 plus graves.
