Phra Phutthasihing Shrine—Chonburi Province, Thailand - Buddhist Temples and Public Shrines on Waymarking.com

This shrine houses a replica of the Phra Phutthasihing, an image of the Buddha, cast in pure silver. An extremely beautiful icon, one which is highly revered by the people of this province. This Buddha image, along with the Emerald Buddha, are the guardians of the Chakri Dynasty (the ruling royal dynasty of Thailand). Thus they are significant national icons.

The replica is housed in an elaborate shrine, which is surrounded by a moat—separating the sacred from the profane, all of which is enclosed by a fence. Open hours are from 08.00 to 17.00. Entrance is without charge (though, of course, a donation can be made). The Thai language inscription in front of the shrine states that the shrine was opened on January 8th 1966 by The King and The Queen of Thailand, and that construction occurred between October 24th 1961 and December 1965.

During my visit several people came by to pay their respects. It is clearly held in regard by the locals.
