Marker Name: A8 - Reid School
Marker Text: The Bend school district’s first principal, Ruth Reid, came to Bend from New Brunswick, Canada in 1904. Reid became a progressive leader in the educational issues of her time. When completed, the Reid School, named in Reid’s honor, was widely admired as a marvel of masonry and advanced mechanical systems. The school was built of locally quarried volcanic tuff.
