This was a large school in it's day. Over the years people have left and Gaines is much smaller. The sign on the front says "School No1 Built Oct. 1885." The area was booming during the lumber era is now a seasonal retreat for hunters and snowmobilers, along with a small population of residents. The building now houses Gaines Company Fishing Tackle.
