Thomas Burke (c.1747-1783) was born in Galway, Ireland. He was a Physician; Lawyer; Delegate to North Carolina state constitutional convention in 1776; Delegate to Continental Congress from North Carolina in 1776; member of North Carolina state legislature in 1777; Governor of North Carolina from 1781-82. Burke County, N.C. is named for him.
