---Washington: A guide to the Evergreen State
The Lyons Ferry site at the confluence of the Palouse and Snake Rivers became an important ferry crossing for the historic Mullan Road which opened in 1862. A ferry operated at this location until the Lower Monumental Dam was completed. In 1968, the State decided to replace the ferry with a bridge. Instead of a new bridge the State rebuilt a bridge that was removed from the Columbia at Vantage in 1963. The historic Joso Railroad Bridge is also nearby (1912). Also new since 1941 are the Lyons Ferry Park (1970) and the Lyons Ferry Fish Hatchery (1982).
