Ray's Kingburgers - Mt Airy, NC - Googie Architecture on Waymarking.com

Built in the early 1960's this building was one of two in Mt Airy. Ray Goad branched out into the fast food business in 1963. There were 15 Ray's Kingburger locations by 1969, in NC: Mount Airy (2), Winston-Salem, Kernersville, Greensboro, Burlington, Asheboro, Salisbury, Lenoir, Boone, North Wilkesboro, Elkin-Jonesville; in VA: Wytheville, Blacksburg, and Pulaski. The chain lasted through the late 1970s/early 1980s. The other Mount Airy, NC location now houses a Goober's 52 restaurant.
