Known as the Chief Huruhuru Monument, this obelisk honours Te Huruhuru, as well as the brothers Micheal, John, and Paul Studholme. This was the beginning of pakeha settlement of the Waimate district.

John Studholme

Born May 29, 1829. Died March 11, 1903

He took up the Waimate Run with his younger brothers Paul and Michael in 1854.

He was M.H.R for Gladstone which included Waimate 1880.
