Texas history in marker and stones
Wish I could visit with these bones
Hear in detail their lives' tales
With just names and dates, the detail pales
Still and all is worth a view
Even if pondering is all I can do.
The marker is just inside the gate of the cemetery.
Take some time to read the headstones -- especially near GZ. A few have unusual names like Texas and Queen Marrs.
Marker Number: 9257
Marker Text: Founded before mid-1800s.
Named for early settler L.T. "Uncle Lee" Lawler. Beloved by citizens, for years he leased land free to community for school, church, and cemetery.
First school, named for Edward Stevenson (land donor), began before 1872.
Now farm and ranch area.
