ACE BELVOIR 18 1984, VA, is an Army Corps of Engineers survey disk located about 75 feet north-northwest of the center of the intersection of Belvoir Road and 12th Street on Fort Belvoir, Fairfax County, VA. The disk is about 36 feet west southwest of the southwest end of a crosswalk across Belvoir Road, about 27 feet southwest of the southwest end of a low brick wall that supports a sign for the Fort Belvoir Chapel, about 21 feet east-northeast of the centerline of a sidewalk leading north to the main entrance to the Fort Belvoir Chapel, about 10 feet north-northwest of the north curb of 12th Street, 5.0 feet west-southwest of the northwest corner of the concrete base of a metal pole that supports traffic lights, 4.5 feet north-northwest of the north edge of the sidewalk that runs along the north side of 12th Street, and recessed one inch in the sod. The disk was apparently monumented by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1984, but it is in neither the Geocaching nor National Geodetic Survey databases. It is stamped BELVOIR 18 1984. To reach from the intersection of the Fairfax County Parkway (County Route 7100) and US Highway 1 near Lorton, VA, go east (northbound) on US Highway 1 for about 0.27 miles to the intersection with Pohick Road (County Route 613). Turn right and go southeasterly and east on Pohick Road for about 1.33 miles to the intersection with Gunston Road and 12th Street. Continue straight ahead east-northeast on 12th Street for about 0.3 miles to the intersection with Belvoir Road and the Chapel and the disk on the left. NOTE: Fort Belvoir is an active military installation, and access is limited to DoD pass-holders and/or personnel on official business. Recovery of this station was first logged at the Geocaching datasheet for station ERDL 4, PID = HV2469.
