In a public park overlooking the old town of Vejer del Frontera is a really poor example of a sundial.

While visiting Vejer del Frontera on the Coats de la Luz, Andalucia, Spain, we would often walk over to the Calle del Miramundo to enjoy the view of the world at sunset. What a scenic walk. The path was busy every evening as people strolled to see the sun setting over the Bay of Cadiz with the old windmills in the foreground. Turn around and enjoy the sunset glowing on the old town. This is truley the Calle del Miramundo.
At the east end is a public park with a large horizontal sundial. It looked normal until you looked closely. The numbers are marked for 12 hours before and after noon. A total of 24 daylight hours. OK time flies when you are having fun but this is excessive. The gnomon is not aligned to noon and is on a block offsetting it from the the dial centre. It would have cost no more to construct a proper sundial. Such a waste. Why? Why?
I think I understand. In Spain they sleep in the afternoon and eat in the middle of the night. The stores are closed when you want to buy something. Perhaps the sundial shows a unique Spanish time. Perhaps the concept is like island time which tends to be quite flexible.
Enjoy the view! Ignore the sundial.
