On the south side of the Ginkgo Petrified Forest Museum there is a display of about 60 petroglyphs that were moved to this location prior to there original location being flooded by the backwaters of Wanapum Dam in 1953. The original site contained more than 300 separate figures carved into basalt columns by the Wanapum Indians. The Wanapums lived along Columbia River and lived on fish, venison, berries, and roots. They were expert fishermen, using nets, spears and woven willow traps.
