Expansion after expansion has grown this football stadium from the original 3,200 seating capacity as Shields-Watkins Field in 1921 to over 106,000 fans until more club level seats were added in 2006 and 2009. Current capacity quoted in newspaper is 100,011 with more renovation in progress. The stadium is largest college football stadium in the South.
To the roar of cheering fans singing "Rocky Top", The Vols have roughly a 80% win record at home. Watch the action on the field and/or up on the "The Godzillatron" expansive video monitor rotating through replays, stats, and crowd pix. Entertainment continues with the several mascots running around the stadium. "Smokey", a live bluetick coonhound plus a costumed version. Student dressed in fringed buckskins and coonskin cap. (Saw him at the basketball game.)
