This 11' x 50' mural is one of five Lance Hunter murals to receive the Presidents Award for Best Public Improvement Project from the Texas Downtown Association in 2001. It is located in a tiny park in Cotton Square. There is plenty of street parking near the mural. Lance Hunter is an art professor at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.

The Texas Theatre, depicted in the mural, used to be located across the street from the mural location. Lance Hunter was assisted on this mural by Sylvia Nittis Hunter, Jim Hunter, and Kathryn Hunter.
As the mural states, it was sponsored by Brookshire Brothers, the Pineywoods Foundation, and Main Street Lufkin in 1997.
From the mural: "The original location of the 'Spit and Whittle' as the Brookshire Brothers Grocery was affectionately known was across the street from the 'Old Angelina Courthouse'. The old courthouse was razed in 1954."
