The Marshfield Library Association had been in existence for over 30 years before receiving funds from the Carnegie Foundation in 1911. A grant of $5000 was granted to the community of 1300 people. A brick and limestone library was built at the corner of Jackson and Clay Streets. This building operated as the library until 1995, when the new Garst Memorial Library was opened. The Carnegie building is currently in use as the Webster County History Museum. The sidewalk at the museum displays a "Walk of Fame" honoring famous people from Missouri.
