In 1860 to 61 this was this site of the Mud Springs Station along the Pony Express line. The buildings were made of sod and today all that can be found are fields and a marker.

The area around the site was home to a natural spring, and in 1859, buildings of sod were constructed for the stage line that went through the area. The use as a Pony Express station came as typical stations did, looking for establishments along the planned route for re-supply of the riders. However, the use of the Pony Express was shortly used.
As a matter of interest, in 1865, troops from Fort Laramie fought an Indians retreating after an attack on Julesburg.
Today, this is a nice spot for a picnic. We were joined by a group of beautiful horses.

This site has been given to the State of Nebraska by Mrs. Etta Scherer and children to be presented as a memorial to all early pioneers who won the west.
