The Brushy Bayou Bridge was built 1919 as part of the West Fork Des Moines River rechanneling project. As of 2009, this bridge is abandoned. As of 1980, as a six year old boy, driving over this bridge was a highlight of a family trip to Emmetsburg. Foot traffic on this bridge is not recommended. Numerous planks are missing or damaged and the north end of the bridge appears to have been subject to fire sometime in the recent past.
