The company moved its engine manufacturing to the Brown's Lane plant in Coventry, and the site is now residential. The developers requested a sculpture that recognised the important role that the factory had played in the lives of the people who worked in it and lived beside it.
The sculpture is 5 metres high on a 700mm brick plinth.
The front details show the emblems of Jaguar and Daimler while the details on the rear describe the change of use of the area from industrial to residential.
An article in the Coventry Evening Telegraph in Aug 2002 stated that the sculptor Paul Margetts was asking for help from people in Coventry who have memories of the city's Daimler Green site. He had been asked to create a work of art for the entrance to the new Daimler Green development and wanted to speak to people with knowledge of the history of the site. He was also looking for fellow artists who would like to make a contribution to the piece. My guess therefore is that the work was completed in 2003.
