Reser Stadium opened it's doors as Parker Stadium in 1953, with an original capacity of 25,000. Before then the Beavers had split their time between the tiny on-campus Bell Field, and Multnomah Stadium 70 miles away in Portland. Over time the capacity has been altered to 28,000 (1958), 33,000 (1965) and then up to 40,593 in 1967. The focus then changed from half hazard expansion to quality improvements. The first chair seating, luxury boxes and covered seating came for the 1990 season, which then reduced the capacity to 35,362. In 2003 the 'Raising Reser' campaign kicked off, with an eventual goal of replacing every seat, and raising the capacity to 56,000 through three phases of renovation. The first two phases are now complete, raising the capacity to the current figure. The scoreboard has been replaced with an 80'X30' color digital display board. So far $115 million has been spent on the renovation, which is more than 20 times the original cost of construction. Phase three of the renovation is forecast to start around 2014.
