Not much is known about this old monument. The Cooper has started to turn green and the monument is on the side corner of public office building. It stands about 13 feet high in the air surrounded by four cannon balls on the ground.

west side: HERTFORD COUNTY CHAPTER/U. D. C.
Full-length figure of a uniformed Confederate soldier stands atop a tall shaft and tiered base. The figure is walking, and holds his Springfield rifle in a combat-ready position. Uniform items include a wide-brimmed hat, bed roll and haversack. There is a flag and crossed rifles emblem on the front of the shaft. The base is polished at top and has three rough-hewn tiers. There is a cannon ball at each corner of the bottom tier.
