I have been to Blue Lakes many times for fishing trips. Blue Lakes is beautiful and clean. Excellent winter trout fishing, I tried many neighboring streams and lakes, nothing. The docks at the lodge made the trout fishing easy. I caught my trout limit everyday of a nice sized trout and use the fish cleaning facility right there. The best fishing I found in years. Bait store is near. The lodge did have coffee, juice and cereal but after successfull boat dock trout fishing; you want more food. The small room's kitchen had a 4 burner electric stove and oven, compact frig, microwave. The room was comfortable and clean. Stayed in room with a kitchenette which was handy since there are no restaurants within walking distance.
Room looked over the lake and the room's back patio lounge chairs were comfy. Watch out for the hungry ducks looking for bread hand-outs. The other guests were all very quiet and the lodge is more of an adult setting.
Recommended tackle: Spin casting with clear water-filled bubble and treble hook on 4' leader
Recommended fishing methods:
Use the boat & fishing lodge's pier to cast far into the lake, near the wooden back patio of restaurant. Mornings are best. Cast and let sink, then reel-in slowly for hits. Watch out for local living eagles who love dead floating rainbow trout. I never tried bass here, only trout; since this stay was a referral by long time Blue Lakes resident.
