Aside from the sign, there isn't much information here. It is currently a fire station.
Several old books mention the blacksmith shop in Knights Ferry.
The Big Oak Flat Road (1955) by Irene D. Paden and Margaret E. Schlichtmann mentions in the chapter on Knights Ferry
"Meanwhile the town grew. The present general store is said to have been built in ’52 and residences even then climbed the steep and narrow streets. Lots brought as much as $ 2000 apiece. Business flourished. Beside his share in the ferry Vantine had an excellent winery. Dakin and McLauflin ran a smithy and wheelwright shop and made wagons that faithfully came to market on Saturdays for fifty years. "
