The Little Mermaid is a sculpture located on a rock in Copenhagen's Langelinie's Park. It is much smaller than most people suspect. The sculptor was Edvard Eriksen (1876-1959) and was erected in 1913. it is based on Hans Christian Anderson's tale of the same name and it has informally become the national symbol of Denmark.
The statue is not located in the City Center and many tourists come here by car or cab.
Interestingly, the statue will be moved to Shanghai for the World Expo in May 2010 and remain there until October.
