This area has a long history related to the Revolutionary War. Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, operated near this area during our War for independence from England. A battle was fought near by at Hunt's Bluff on the Pee Dee River. The cannon itself has a marking for the manufacturer denoting the cannon as replica and the company logo touting its business as replica manufacturers. A marking on the end of the cannon near the bore has No.12. For the geocachers, there is a cache hidden nearby at the park.
