The statue is actually called "Homework Comes First" and was dedicated in 2002. This statue is of a child reading a book which is quite fitting since its location is near the entrance of the Renton Library. This is a bronze statue by artist Martha Pettigrew. It serves as a reminder that work comes before play. The city purchased this through the One Percent for Art Fund.
The City of Renton has a number of wonderful statues throughout the city and a number of them have been purchased via the One Percent for Art Fund. Enjoy!
