Am 27. Mai 1832 zogen in der damals bayerischen Rheinpfalz mehr als 20.000 Menschen zur Hambacher Schlossruine bei Neustadt an der Haardt (heute Neustadt an der Weinstraße). Die Hauptredner des sogenannten Hambacher Fests beklagten die Zersplitterung Deutschlands in 39 Kleinstaaten und forderten ein geeintes und freies Deutschland. Sie setzten sich für Presse- und Versammlungsfreiheit, Freiheit der Rede, den Wegfall von Handelsbeschränkungen sowie die Gleichberechtigung der Frauen ein. Das Hambacher Fest wird daher als Wiege der Demokratie in Deutschland" bezeichnet. Auch die heutige Bundesflagge geht auf das Fest zurück, auf dem viele Teilnehmer schwarz-rot-goldene Fahnen als Symbol für Einigkeit, Recht und Freiheit mitführten."

On 27 May 1832 more than 20,000 people came to the Hambach castle near Neustadt on the Haardt. The keynote speakers supported the fragmentation of Germany into 39 small states and called for a united and free Germany. They called for a free press, freedom of assembly, freedom of speech, the abolition of trade restrictions and the equality of women. The Hambach Festival is considered to be the cradle of democracy in Germany. Please take a picture of yourself at the Hambach Castle, Logs without photos will be deleted.
