"Thomas B. Adams was former football and track star at Wayne State University as well as being an outstanding contributor not only to the university but to the entire city of Detroit since his graduation from Wayne in 1944.
Adams lettered in football in 1938-39 and 40 and in track during the 39-40 and 41 seasons. He led the Wayne football team in scoring during the 1940 season. In 1939 Adams won the Canadian Indoor Sprint Championship and was a member of the 880 Relay team that won the Notre Dame Relays in 1938. Before graduating from Wayne, Adams entered the Navy and served for four and one-half years. During his tour he received the Navy Cross, the distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and a Presidential Citation. In 1955, Adams was named, "The Outstanding Young Advertising Man of the Year," and in 1958 was appointed President of Campbell-Ewald. Adams also served as the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Campbell-Ewald Company. Adams is a past President of the Wayne State Alumni and in 1961 he was voted to a six-year term on the Wayne State Board of Governors where he served until January of 1969. For his outstanding achievements in both athletics and business, Adams was named to the Sports Illustrated 25 Year All-American team in 1965. In addition to his duties with the Campbell-Ewald Company, Adams was a member of the Board of Trustees of Children's Hospital and served as a Director of the Economic Club of Detroit.
