Devil's Island is part of the Apostle Islands National Seashore in Lake Superior. The lighthouse was first lit in 1891. It was owned and manned by the US Coast Guard until being automated in 1978. In 1992 the lighthouse was transferred to the National Park Service.

The lighthouse still uses it's original 3rd order Fresnel lens.

The island is only assessable via water taxi or private water craft. However, if you make it to the island, the volunteer rangers will gladly give you a free tour of the lighthouse and grounds.
