Just outside the city of Hat Yai in the province of Songkhla is this large and busy university. Without planning to do so, I visited on graduation day. The campus was filled with students and their families, festive events and activities, and the sounds of snapping cameras.
The university offers a full range of courses: Faculty of Business Administration; Faculty of Law; Faculty of Liberal Arts; Faculty of Science and Technology; Faculty of Political Science; Faculty of Communication Arts. Plus a graduate school with a MBA and master of education program. When I visited I saw a number of students from nearby Malaysia, plus Thai students from all over southern Thailand. Evidently, the university has a reputation and attracts students. The campus seemed well designed and laid out. Tuition is approximately ~$1,000us a year, depending on the program.
The current university was originally founded as a city college in 1997, it rapidly expanded with an ever increasing number of students, more faculties, and in 2003 its status was changed to that of a university.
