I spoke at length (on the phone) with Judith Patterson, president of the Highlands Historical Society. She explained the monument, built after the second World War is referred to as Doughboy by local residents. She promised to research the history of this moument and mail me with more information, at which time I will update this page in due form.

Location
This monument is located 100 feet from the Off the Hook Restaurant, located also in the Highlands. The best way to get here is take Exit 117 on the Garden State Parkway. Follow the signs for Sandy Hook Beach. The monument is located on Route 36 South just before the Highlands Bridge, 100 yards before the entrance to Sandy Hook.
