This house built in 1872 for John M. Hamilton who later became Governor of Illinois. He moved into this out with in a year of marrying his wife. At the time was practicing law in Bloomington. He began serving in the Illinois State Senate in 1877 where he served until 1881 when he became Lieutenant Governor of Illinois. He served in that role for 2 years until he became Governor of Illinois in 1883. He served as Governor of Illinois from 1883 to 1885.

The house is well maintained and continues to serve as a single family home.
