Hat Yai is the leading town in far southern Thailand. Not overly prosperous and relatively quiet, but a nice place to visit—apart from the Muslim separatist terrorism to the immediate south.
This fountain is not overly impressive, but is situated next to the town clock. Further back from the main road is a large and imposing looking building under construction. My 'motor-cycle-taxi-driver' told me that it is a 'market', but it looks to me more like a local government office of some sort. More in keeping with a spot with a town clock and a town fountain, however, our shared lack of a common tongue prevented further investigation.
