Since 1932 there have been teams in Binningen that collect artifacts, documents, and pictures to document the local history. Those pieces were on sporadic exhibition in different locations.
In 1987 the museum opened to merge all these items and have regular operation hours (well, quite regular :-)).
The exhibition shows all possible aspects of the local history and nature back to the Stone Age and Roman Empire, but the main focus is on traditional craft and trade from the 19th and 20th century, e.g. a dental practice and a bootmaking from 1930, a working press of 1928, or a grocery store of the 19th century.
Another focus is a large collection of traditional local carnival masks.
