Presumably this is a giant 'R', representing 'The Regency' hotel, shining down onto the streets of down town Hat Yai, but I cannot help but think of it also as a giant tongue, about to lick the town.
The Regency is one of the leading hotels in Hat Yai. Centrally located and easy to spot. Good rooms (maybe a little faded since its best days) for around us$50 a night.
The town of Hat Yai is the major town of far south Thailand, close to the Malaysian border. Perhaps not as 'brash and bustling' as on the website of the hotel, but an interesting place to visit for a few days.
