The first courthouse, built in 1850, cost the county fifty dollars. That year the population of Henderson County consisted of 1,155 white persons, eighty-one slaves, and one free black.

The 1913 Henderson County courthouse has a unique style, with wings that project at an angle. This design was also used in the current 1908 Rains County courthouse.
