It is amazing what kind of churches were built early in the last century. With a cornerstone laid in 1904, granite for this church was quarried locally. It took five years to build, withstanding a foreclosure in the process.

St. Mary's stands on the highest point on the Newport peninsula extending into Lake Memphremagog at the southern end. It is an excellent spot for the cellular antennas in the bell tower.
