The Williamsburg School opened in the early 1900s and operated as a school until 1983 when it became the Williamsburg Area Community Center. The last principal of the school was Mr. Terry Randall. He was preceded by Mr. Krosier Franklin. The school mascot was the Yellow Jacket.

The building is still used regularly today as a community center as well as rental for receptions, sports play, and other events. Rental of the Detweiler gymnasium as well as a small kitchen and banquet space is available. The green space outside the school which includes a playground, basketball court, and large field are used regularly by local families for recreation.

When the school opened it served the Greene Township Indiana area as the K - 12 school graduating classes that averaged about 15 students per class. At some point during the history, Williamsburg school became the home to the students from Webster, IN. In 1967, Williamsburg-Webster school began serving only grades 1-6 when the Kindergarten and high schools were moved to a consolidated location in Fountain City, Indiana and were combined with Whitewater, IN and Fountain City, IN students in the K and 7-12 levels. The school served as the elementary for all four schools (Williamsburg, Webster, Whitewater, and Fountain City) in double shifts for two years. During the last two years of operation as a school, Williamsburg and Webster students attended school from 7 a.m. - noon and Fountain City and Whitewater students attended school from noon to 5 p.m.

The facility is used annually for a haunted house called Fuzzy's Freak Show. A couple of annual parties are typically held for the community by the dedicated group of volunteers who manage the rental and upkeep of the facility. The community center was able to install a new roof, thanks to a grant, in the summer of 2009.

In addition to serving as a community center, the building now houses a small museum on the second floor which honors Williamsburg and the school. Because the other three schools in the district (Webster, Fountain City, and Whitewater) are no longer in existence, alumni of those schools are also bringing items to this small museum for safe keeping. The museum is not currently open regular hours, but if you contact one of the volunteers who manages rental (their numbers are posted at the front door) and they are available they are normally very happy to show you around. The newest addition to the property, a brick memorial path, was added in the fall of 2009 and will be dedicated at the annual Williamsburg Alumni Association banquet in June of 2010.
