The USGS office at the Denver Federal Center teaches a free map, compass and GPS class which I attended several years ago. They demonstrated how technological improvements have aided cartography by using the two USGS Benchmarks in front of the building. This benchmark was found to be off by about 100' when they USGS employees began to teach the class. So they had a second, more accurate benchmark placed at the more accurate location (WM7RWR).

The coordinates on the benchmark read: Elevation 5663 feet above sea level; NGVD29; 39 42 42.9N; 105 07 30.0 W; NAD27
