Many of these signs can be found at different entry points to the City of Whittier.

"Friendly" refers to the early influence of the Quaker (Friends) religion on the city. Whittier was founded by Quakers (Friends) and named after Quaker poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whittier.

Signs in early 1970’s with the slogan “Hometown of President Nixon” were replaced with this slogan after his resignation.
Type of community: Town
