Bronze statue on a marble base in a small garden area directly behind the entrance to the Musee Rodin. This is the first place that anyone visiting the Musee Rodin visits as they enter the garden area, not only because it is Rodin's most famous sulpture, but also because of its pure artistic magnetism that causes a person to stand and gaze upward at it.
The inscription in the marble base reads:
LE PENSEUR
De Rodin Offert
Par Souscription
Publique Au Peuple
De Paris MCMVI

The museum and grounds are worthy of more than a cursory visit mere to see The Thinker. The museum has many pieces in it, including numerous plaster models that Rodin made as he worked on his sculptures. The Garden is filled with many more Bronzes, and the wonderful reflecting pool invites you sit and relax amid the many works of art. It is what helps make Paris such a special place for those of us who visit.
